When should I arrive for my appointment?

Please arrive no earlier than five minutes before your appointment time. The clinic rooms at The Terrace are in use throughout the day, and arriving early risks interrupting another patient's session. The same courtesy is extended to you — your session is private and will not be interrupted.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Accepted Answer

No. You can book directly through the online booking system without a GP referral. If Ed feels your problem needs input from your GP or another service, he will explain that during the appointment.

Question 3

Can you arrange an MRI or X-ray?

Accepted Answer

Not directly. In private practice Ed cannot order imaging in the way he can in his NHS role. Where a scan or X-ray would genuinely benefit your care, he can write a clear clinical letter on your behalf setting out the findings and reasoning, which you can give to your GP for them to consider actioning.

Are virtual appointments available?

Yes. A 15-minute virtual triage call (telephone or video) is £25, paid in full at the time of booking, and a longer remote advice and guidance session is available too. Virtual appointments are currently offered around the Taunton clinic sessions, and in time they will be available outside the physical clinic days at The Terrace, giving much wider choice of appointment times.

What should I expect from a virtual triage appointment?

If you need urgent advice about where to turn, or you are simply unsure where to get the right help, this is often the best place to start. A 15-minute telephone or video triage call is not a replacement for a hands-on assessment — it is a focused conversation. Ed brings nine years of experience working in NHS primary care alongside his wider practice, and is used to making sense of uncertain presentations. He can screen for red flag pathology, signpost you in an acute MSK situation, and give first-line advice on the safest next step. By the end of the call you should have a clear view of what to do: book a face-to-face appointment at Wyvern Physiotherapy, speak to your GP or a community pharmacist, or head to urgent care or A&E. Where a further appointment with Ed is the right move, a 25-minute session is £45.

What do I need to wear or bring?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing you can move in. Shorts are helpful for hip, knee, ankle or low back problems, and a vest top for neck, shoulder or elbow problems. Bring any relevant scan reports, clinic letters or a list of your medication if you have them.

What does an appointment cost, and what deposit is needed?

Face-to-face appointments are £70 for 40 minutes and £45 for 25 minutes. A flat £25 deposit is taken at the time of booking. Virtual appointments are paid in full at the point of booking. Deposits are fully refundable if you cancel or reschedule with more than 48 hours' notice; within 48 hours the deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

How long will the session last?

Your appointment is booked for the full time you have paid for, but sessions may conclude slightly early if the clinical objectives have been fully met. You are paying for expert assessment, diagnosis and a treatment plan, not simply a block of time.

Question 9

Is support included after my appointment?

Accepted Answer

Every face-to-face appointment includes one week of WhatsApp message support for exercise technique, rehabilitation advice and progress check-ins. New or changing symptoms may need a further appointment rather than messaging.

Question 10

Can I bring someone with me?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You are welcome to bring a family member, friend or chaperone to your appointment, and you can request this at any point during the session.

Can I claim the cost through private medical insurance?

Accepted Answer

The practice is self-pay only at present. A receipt can be provided if you wish to claim through a health cash plan, though you should check with your provider first.

What if my symptoms are urgent?

Accepted Answer

If you develop sudden changes to bladder or bowel control, numbness around the saddle area, rapidly worsening weakness, or symptoms following significant trauma, do not wait for a physiotherapy appointment. Contact NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.

Do you offer appointments at home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Home visits are arranged individually by email, with a minimum visit cost of £150 to reflect travel and planning time.
